Join the international learning community at UBC!
The International Peer Program matches new international students with continuing UBC students (international and Canadian). Throughout the academic year, these peers learn from one another, participate in a variety of group activities, and volunteer on campus.
Peers also participate in an academic coaching program that connects them to experienced student coaches who help them:
- examine their personal strengths and challenges in their academic lives, and
- develop learning tools and study tips for engaging fully with UBC and Canadian academic culture.
If you would like to develop your intercultural communication, academic coaching, and leadership skills, make new friends from around the world, and contribute to building a vibrant international learning community on campus, this is the program for you!
Peers
International Peers are new international undergraduate students who want to learn about and connect with the UBC community and share their cultural backgrounds, languages, and perspectives. Apply now to be an International Peer.
Senior Peers* are continuing undergraduate students interested in sharing their experiences and in learning from their International Peers. Senior Peers are key sources of social and academic support for their peers. Each Senior Peer is matched with four or more new international undergraduates, usually in their faculty.
Group Leaders
Group Leaders* are continuing undergraduate student volunteers who are trained to facilitate faculty-based groups of 20 to 45 students. Group Leaders monitor relationships between peers in their groups and are responsible for organizing monthly academic success and social activities for all group members. All International Peers and senior peers will be placed in one of these groups.
STUDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM
Program Assistants*
Student managers run the International Peer Program through paid administrative positions. Student managers are accomplished student leaders who work 10 to 12 hours per week during the academic year to assure the delivery of the International Peer Program at all levels.

*Please note: The International Peer Program will not be recruiting student leaders for 2012-13. If you are interested in working with international students in a student leader capacity, find out more about opportunities with Jump Start for 2012-13.
