Alumni Ambassadors
UBC Alumni Ambassadors work as official representatives of Alumni Affairs and connect with alumni in communities across the Lower Mainland. Ambassadors are leaders and role models on campus, who reconnect alumni with activity currently occurring at UBC’s Vancouver Campus in an effort to find new volunteer opportunities, update alumni data and act as a opportunity to provide current perspective on student life – they represent the university as a positive, inclusive, dynamic, learning and living environment.
Arts Peer Coaches
This *NEW* Arts peer program recognizes that learning happens always and everywhere at UBC. We support the enhanced learning experiences of all students in the Faculty of Arts. Our program emphasizes a student-driven, peer-to-peer learning approach offered through customized one-on-ones or small groups. Arts Peer Coaches help students develop a clear plan for their success and guide them in meaningfully planning their degree path at UBC and in the Faculty of Arts.
Career Peer Educators
Career Peer Educators are vital members of the UBC Career Services team. They work closely with Career Services staff to develop and deliver Career Education programming for the diverse population of students on campus. These volunteers share their work search expertise with fellow students, helping them to navigate the job application process.
E Team (Engineering Peer Program)
The E-Team is a peer leadership program within the Faculty of Applied Science, Engineering. Working with the Student Development, Engineering office and the Engineering Undergraduate Society, the E-Team is committed to fostering a supportive learning environment for all UBC Engineering undergraduate students in programs and events that help to support engineering students in their academics and professional skills development while at UBC.
Equity Ambassadors
The Equity Ambassadors work toward creating an inclusive learning and working environment on campus. They promote respectful communities of difference by raising students’ awareness about equity and inclusiveness through workshops, discussion groups, information tables, articles, and events. Social justice and dedication to promoting human rights and inclusiveness for all students, staff, and faculty is the common goal for all Equity Ambassadors.
International Peer Advisors (IPAs)
As International Peer Advisors (IPAs), we are dedicated to supporting international students to achieve their success at UBC. We are a group of Work Learn or Work Study students trained by professional advisors to assist international students, especially with issues about student visas, health insurance, employment and work permits, cultural transition and campus services.
Peer Academic Coaches
The Peer Academic Coaches are a team of students from different years and faculties who provide Peer Academic Coaching to fellow UBC students. Peer academic coaching promotes academic learning skills in partnership with the Learning Commons website. Peer Academic Coaches provide one on one support to help students develop strategies for academic success. They also provide referral support to help direct students to a variety of services and resources within the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre and throughout UBC Campus.
SCI Team
The SCI Team is a science student development group which promotes leadership, academic, and science-related events around UBC. Throughout the year SCI Team organizes different workshops with the help of Student Development to provide educational information to students on a variety of issues. An example of such events include: Meet your Profs, Get into Research, Get into Volunteering, Women in Science, and Beyond the BSc.
SPAC (Science Peer Academic Coaches)
A Peer Academic Coach is a student who has completed at least his or her first year of university and demonstrates well-adjusted academic skills. As a Science Peer Academic Coach, you will connect with a student peer to examine personal strengths and challenges in his or her academic career. SPAC Coaches mentor students in their academic life at UBC. SPAC coaches also prepare and present faculty specific workshops on learning skills and resources and meet regularly with the team throughout the term to discuss learning tools, study tips and academic issues.
Sustainability Ambassadors
The Sustainability Ambassadors Peer Program will be a key component of the sustainability education outreach activities of the UBC Sustainability Initiative (USI) Teaching & Learning Office. Volunteer Ambassadors will work with the Sustainability Student Advisor as part of a team to deliver sustainability programming to fellow students on the UBC-Vancouver campus. They will also network with other student groups on campus to promote sustainability education.
Wellness Peers
The Wellness Centre is a health promotion program of the Student Health Service. The Coordinator works with volunteer Wellness Peer Educators who assist in the Wellness Centre and organize a variety of programs such as wellness fairs, workshops/discussions, and displays. Students can stop by the Centre for any reason and do not require an appointment. People commonly visit the Wellness Centre to seek further information regarding health and well being topics, to organize a workshop, pick up condoms and promotional items or to browse our safer sex products. The role of the Peer Educators is to facilitate the interaction with people who come into the centre by answering any questions and providing additional information and resources.
