Can’t decide whether to apply to Peer Programs? E-Team Member and 2nd Year computer enginneering student Isha explains why it’s worth it.
I have always enjoyed the month of January. It is halfway through the academic year, people are already in a flow and there are new classes to look forward to! This January, it is also going to be my second term involved in Peer Programs.
I got to know about E-Team through my MUG Leader who was a part of it during that time. Even after a taxing Imagine day (everyone knows that the pep rally is of a blow-your-mind proportions) I remembered her stories and arrived home to Google UBC Peer Programs.

Seems interesting. I applied the next year and it has been an amazing ride since! E-Team is a group of dedicated students who want to contribute to the development of engineering students’ academic and professional growth. As a part of E-Team I have learned so many new things and met a lot of people. I feel more involved and active in the engineering and UBC community. Being a part of this supportive and passionate group has encouraged me to expand my thinking. I have chaired meetings, brainstormed ideas for events, planned events and learned so much more about being and effective leader.
I will admit that it IS hard to find time to balance schoolwork and my other involvements sometimes but it is definitely worth it. In fact, I will go as far as to say that being tight on time has proved a good solution to my horrible habit of procrastinating. I don’t think a single week has passed where I ramble on about involvement and encourage friends and strangers alike to take time out of their schedules to being an active member of the community; so I will do the same here and now. I believe applications for Peer Programs will be coming out soon! Hope to see you all next year.
Editors note: Applications for the 2012/13 Peer Programs are open until February 8th.
